Day by Day

Day 1 - Arrival in Algarve and to Alcoutim
Upon your arrival at Faro or Seville Airport you will be greeted by Bikesul staff. After a brief introduction you will be transferd to Alcoutim, 1h driving distance.
Alcoutim is a small typical village of the Algarve's inland located at the edge of the Guadiana River, a natural boarder with Spain. In the past this was an important comercial location when the river was used as transportation main for entrance and exit of goods. Nowadays the village of Alcoutim is a quiet inland village with and extensive  rich in history, culture and nature and unfortunately with an aging population. If you arrive with time we strongly recommend you to take a walk around the village.

Day 2 . From the Guadiana along the Tavira's serra
The first cycling day connects Alcoutim to Vaqueiros. Starting with an easy first part along the river it will then become veru hard and rough as you cycle inland to the Serra. 
The landscape in this day is dominated by dryfruit orchards (almond trees, figs, or olive trees), many of which are still in use.
Along the way you will find the Megalitic Monument of Lavajo Menhir (3500 B.C.). Then you will enter in the earth of the Serra in constant uphill and downhill stretches passing by some typical tiny villages of the Serra.

Day 3 - The Serra do Caldeirão
In this day you will ride in the earth of the Caldeirão mountain range. 
During this day you will ride in the Serra do Caldeirão (Caldeirão Montain), and you will easily realize that, with the climbs and steep downhill slopes that make this one of the most demanding days physically and technically. In a constant up & down for several times the gradients will go over 15 and 20%. The passage by the typical villages of Cachopo and Barranco do Velho are some highlights of this day. Take time to recover and have a drink in these places.
The destination will be the village of Salir in the Loulé council.

Day 4 - Along the Barrocal
Leaving Salir you ride west towards Benafim passaing close to the natural reserve of Rocha da Pena, then you will arrive in Alte, a very typical village with a waterspring, museums, a bike caffe and many other interesting places to watch. Proceeding the ride along the barrocal landscape of the Algarve you will pass another traditional village, São Bartolomeu de Messines before you meet the Funcho dam. After you ride along the lake you will finally arrive in Silves, the first capital of Algarve. A city with plenty of remains from the arabic presence and an imponent castle from the medieval times.

Day 5 - The Silves Serra and the Picota conquering 
This will be a short but very hard ride. Leaving the historical city of Silves behind, you will firstly face the challenging Serra de Silves. You will pass the Odelouca dam which marks the entrance in Monchique mountain range. In this day you will meet Picota. A long and hard climb will take you over 700 meters height. The view from the top to the Algarve and Alentejo region is outstanding! 
You will then have to ride down to Monchique in a technical trail you must be very carefull.

Day 6 - Foia - Monchique Mountain Range
This section connects the monchique mountain range with the coast of Lagos. Is the longest riding day with over 70km and it starts in a hard and long climb to the highest point in Algarve, the Foia over 900 meters height. Then a long and fast descent passing by Marmelete village will take you to Bravura lake. The final part of this lake is the beautifull countryside landscape of Lagos council.

Accomplished: 43 mi / 70 km, elevation gain: 1500 meters

Day 7 - The Atlantic Coast and the Vicentina coast
In the last cycling day you will ride mostly in the coastline of the Vicentina coast and the Atlantic Coast. An easy ride compared to the previous days. The landscape of this ride will be different and very characteristic of the area of the Algarve. The arrival at the S. Vincent cape, the southern point of Europe will definitely be an emotional moment!

Accomplished: 25mi / 40km, elevation gain: 500 meters

Day 8: Say goodbye to Algarve 
After a relaxing and tasty breakfast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is time to pack all the luggage and your guides will take you to your hotel or the airport.
