We present the 1st Bikesul GPS Race! A special and pioneering event that will connect two regions, Algarve and Alentejo. Unlike GPS Rides, the GPS Race will time and classify participants, while maintaining the spirit that made GPS Rides so special: good mood, friendship, socializing, camaraderie, and mutual assistance.
Another novelty is the duration of the event. It will span 2 days, with 2 stages. On the first day, Saturday, January 6, 2024, participants will depart from São Brás de Alportel in the morning to cover 80km and 1400 meters of positive elevation, passing through locations such as Querença, Alganduro, Malhão, Felizes, Curvatos, and finishing at the Cycling Center in Almodôvar. At the end of the day, a typical Alentejo dinner will be served to all participants.
On Sunday morning, the start will be given for the 2nd stage, connecting Almodôvar to Fonte Férrea in Alportel. On this day, the route will always be close to EN2 (on the left in the North-South direction), covering a distance of 65km and 1000 meters of positive elevation. The route will pass through Guedelhas, Revezes, Ameixial, Corte do Ouro, Vale Luis Neto, Montes Novos, then descending the Enduro da Menta special stage to finish at Fonte Férrea. Afterward, there will be an un-timed 5km connection to São Brás de Alportel, where participants' luggage will be located.
Registration Fee: €45, includes:
The dinner will take place at the Solar da Portela restaurant, just outside Almodôvar towards the A2 highway.
The registration fee does not include accommodation, and participants are responsible for making their own arrangements.
We provide some contacts for accommodations in Almodôvar:
A dinner for companions can be reserved for €30.
The event is self-paced, in autonomy, and includes timing and classification. Athletes not affiliated with the Portuguese Cycling Federation must mandatory purchase event insurance (Accident Personal and Liability) for the 2 days, costing €6.
There will be a Bikesul vehicle accompanying participants to provide necessary support.
Participants must adhere to traffic rules and always ride on the right, as there will be no on-site signage, staff, or policing along the routes. Bikesul is not responsible for any accidents or incidents that may occur during the event. Participation operates on a fully autonomous basis. Along the route, participants will find cafes, restaurants, water fountains, etc., where they can replenish if needed.
The purpose of this event is camaraderie and sharing a common passion for cycling in its purest form.
Registrations are open until January 3 or until the available 100 slots are filled.
