Program

Day 1 - Arrival in the Algarve

Upon arrival in Faro, a member of the Bikesul staff will receive and welcome you, providing you with detailed information about the region and the Tour. Then, the transfer will take you directly to the hotel, in the city of Faro, just 10 minutes from the airport.

After check-in, take the opportunity to explore the capital of the Algarve.

Accommodation in Faro.

Day 2 - Faro / Albufeira - 55km / 34mi

Leaving the city of Faro, the start is easy and quite pleasant through the Ria Formosa natural park reserve, passing by the island of Faro and then through Ludo, Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, exquisite tourist areas and very well cared for. You will also pass by the famous promenade of Quarteira and then by the luxury Marina of Vilamoura.

The extensive sandy beaches give way to steep cliffs and the landscape changes drastically, also becoming more rugged terrain.

You will arrive in Albufeira, the most touristic destination in the Algarve. Take the opportunity to explore downtown and the old town, where Praia dos Pescadores stands out.

Accommodation in Albufeira.

Day 3 - Albufeira / Lagos - 68km / 42.5mi

Leaving the city of Albufeira via the Marina, start this day by cycling in the prime area of the municipality, along the beaches of São Rafael, Galé and Salgados. Crossing Lagoa dos Salgados via the woodpad will be one of the most pleasant moments of this day. In this place, in addition to being able to contemplate the view over Praia Grande, you can observe the natural fauna and flora of the Salgados Lagoon where you can observe several rare species of birds that vary depending on the time of year.

Next, we pass through Armação de Pêra and then find Senhora da Rocha, a very nice chapel on a cliff with a great view over the sea.

Turning slightly inland, you will cross the city of Lagoa and then reach Ferragudo, an old and small fishing village on the bank of the Arade River. Take the opportunity to have lunch and taste the fresh fish that the restaurants buy every morning.

Crossing the Arade river, you reach the city of Portimão, the 2nd largest city in the Algarve.

On the other side of the city is the bay of Alvor, a place that you can admire before arriving in Lagos, the city where you will spend the night. In Lagos everything seems to invite you to the beach and simple pleasures. But there is also a history of navigators and pirates, the result of a complicity with the sea that persists in the colorful trawlers that bring fish to the market, or in the Marina with yachts from all over the world.

Accommodation in Lagos.

Day 4 - Lagos / Sagres - 57 km / 35 mi

You cannot leave Lagos without visiting Ponta da Piedade, one of the most beautiful places in the Algarve, this is where this day begins!

Continuing your journey you will then find small tourist villages next to the beach of enormous beauty, such as Praia da Luz, Burgau and Salema.

At this moment, you will be cycling on the Costa Vicentina, a much less populated, wilder and usually windy area of the Algarve. Passing through Vila do Bispo, you will then descend to your destination of the day, Sagres.

In Sagres, be sure to visit the fortress of Sagres and the fishing harbor.

Accommodation in Sagres.

Day 5 - Sagres / Vale da Telha (Aljezur) - 60km / 37 mi

From Sagres to the extreme southwest of Europe, Cabo de São Vicente, it is just 6km. We recommend visiting the lighthouse and the fort before continuing your journey north.

You will pass through Vila do Bispo again, continuing through an almost wild area that leads to Carrapateira, a place of unparalleled beauty, with several viewpoints from which you can appreciate the grandeur of the Costa Vicentina. You will pass by Praia da Bordeira which has a very spacious sand that at low tide increases considerably in size, becoming one of the largest in the Algarve. Here flows a stream that sometimes forms a lagoon, appreciated by children.

A long and challenging climb leads to the plateau that connects to Arrifana and Vale da Telha.

Day 6 - Aljezur / Vila Nova de Milfontes (75km / 47 mi)

Leaving Vale da Telha you ride towards Aljezur. Before reaching the historic Vila , you will pass by one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, Praia do Monte Clérigo. Entrance to Aljezur is via the Castle with a panoramic view over the village.
Then you will follow the Aljezur stream towards the coast and Praia da Amoreira. Continuing by land, there is a gradual ascent that leads to the plateau that connects to the town of Rogil, famous for the cultivation of sweet potatoes. Continuing on mostly flat terrain through agricultural fields, you will pass through the town of Maria Vinagre, then head to another of the most famous beaches in the Algarve, Praia de Odeceixe. The long sandy beach and the Seixe river invite you to take a dip in calmer waters.

Crossing the Odeceixe bridge, you enter Alentejo lands. You will visit the famous fishing village of Azenha do Mar, followed by Praia do Carvalhal, before arriving at the famous fishing and tourist village of Zambujeira do Mar.

Following along the coast, after passing through Porto das Barcas, access to the Cabo Sardão Lighthouse is via the magnificent fishermen's trail of the Rota Vicentina.

Before reaching Vila Nova de Milfontes, you will pass through the towns of Arrifana and Longueira.

Accommodation in Vila Nova de Milfontes.

Day 7 - Vila Nova de Milfontes / Santo André - 55km / 34 mi

On this day you will start by pedaling along the dunes and beaches north of Vila Nova de Milfontes, such as Praia do Malhão, Praia dos Aivados and Praia do Queimado, until you reach Praia da Ilha do Pessegueiro. The trail that connects this point to the village of Porto Covo is fascinating and inspiring, as evidenced by the music of Rui Veloso, for example.

After exploring the village, continue along the coast, passing by the port of Sines and this important town. Very close to the center, the fortress, built in the first half of the 15th century, is on a cliff – an area occupied by different peoples since the Paleolithic – as it had military defense intentions. It has a beautiful view of the bay. Vasco da Gama's father, Estêvão da Gama, was mayor in Sines and, for that reason, it is deduced that the navigator was born in this place.

The connection to this day's destination, Vila Nova de Santo André, is made by a trail through a pine forest that can sometimes become more demanding due to the somewhat sandy terrain.

Accommodation in Vila Nova de Santo André.

Day 8 - Santo André / Setúbal - 64km / 40mi

After crossing Vila Nova de Santo André, you will continue along the Lagoa de Santo André to the beach. It will then pass by Praia de Melides to turn inland towards the village of Melides. Follow the long straights of the EN261 that lead to Pinheiro da Cruz and then to Carvalhal. Continuing on to Lagoa Travessa, you will enter the extensive rice fields that will lead you to Comporta, where you can visit the Rice Museum. Once on the Tróia Peninsula, you'll travel through this magnificent tourist area to Costa da Galé where you'll take the ferry that connects to Setúbal. If you wish, we suggest visiting the Roman ruins of Troia and the beaches on the Peninsula with stunning views of Arrábida and the coast of Setúbal.

  Accommodation in Setúbal.

Day 9 - Setúbal / Lisbon (75km / 47mi)

A day very different from the previous ones. Start by cycling along the coast towards Portinho da Arrábida on an exciting journey, passing by the famous beaches of Comenda, Figueirinha, Galápos and Galapinhos.

Leaving Praia do Portinho da Arrábida, it's time to face the long and demanding climb to Serra da Arrábida. Enjoy the magnificent views over the coast and the entire region, which will certainly help to mitigate the difficulty of the ascent.

In Casais da Serra, you will leave the main road to enter a dirt road, heading towards Sesimbra. The route does not reach Sesimbra, continuing on to Serra da Azóia. Continuing along Costa da Caparica, you will then arrive at Trafaria, where the ferry will connect to Belém, in Lisbon.
The trip ends in Lisbon city centre.
