The "Algarve Coastline Bike Tour" is part of the Eurovelo 1-Atlantic Coast Route, which crosses many european countries, from Norwegian to Portugal, passing through the Algarve and connecting Vila Real de Santo António in the east, to Cape Saint Vincent in the west, over a distance of around 250 km/155,34 mi. On this adventure, you will have the opportunity to discover amazing coastal scenery, passing through beaches, cities, villages and natural areas, such as the Ria Formosa Natural Park and the Castro Marim Marshland Natural Reserve.
The Algarve is awarded every year for having some of the best beaches in the world and this tour takes you to pass right by some of them. However, you will also visit historical cities with its castles, churches and other remainings of ancient civilizations.

Day 1 – Arrival in the Algarve
When arriving in Faro, a Bikesul staff member will welcome you, providing you with details about the region and the tour. After that, the shuttle will get you to the hotel in Sagres, a village in the southwestern edge of the Algarve coast. After the check-in, take the opportunity to visit the village, the fortress and the fishing harbor.

Day 2 - Sagres - Lagos (57 kms / 35 mi)
This is the first day of cycling, that starts at the hotel and continues on to the famous Cape Saint Vicent. After, you will visit Vila do Bispo, a place where the wild nature, combined with a rich cultural heritage, remains intact. The villages of Burgau and Aldeia da Luz will follow, highly sought after for their paradisiacal beaches. Just before you get to Lagos, don't miss the oportunity to visit Ponta da Piedade, a place that covers many postcards about the Algarve!

Day 3 - Lagos - Armação de Pêra (60 kms / 37.5 mi)
If you enjoyed the first day, then wait to see what follows! On this day, start by cycling along the long sandy beach of Meia Praia and then continue around the Alvor Bay before reaching Praia da Rocha, in Portimão. Around the Arade River you will find Ferragudo, an old and small fishing village. Take the opportunity to have lunch and taste the fresh fish that restaurants buy every morning. Then, Lagoa, a land of wine, before going down to visit another of the most famous places in the region, the chapel of Senhora da Rocha, located on a cliff.

Day 4 – Armação de Pêra - Faro (55 km / 38 mi)
In this stage you will cycle along the central area of the Algarve and notice a sudden change of landscape in which the cliffs give way to long sandy beaches. As you get to Vilamoura, it's important to visit the marina, known for being a very busy area at night, due to the bars and restaurants located in the area. Right next door is the city of Quarteira, less refined, but with a very pleasant boardwalk next to the beach. Continuing along the beach, you will reach the most luxurious area of ​​the Algarve, the golf resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Upon reaching the main lake, you will enter the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected area due to the presence of many species of fish and birds. Later on, you will have the opportunity to bypass Faro Airport and see the planes and the runway up close. Then, you will quickly get to Faro, the capital of the Algarve. Here, take the opportunity to visit the downtown and the old town, inside the walls.

Day 5 - Faro - Tavira - (47 kms / 29 mi)
This day will always have Ria Formosa as a travel companion. With Faro behind you and having Tavira as your destination, you pass by Olhão, a very characteristic Algarve town and closely linked to the sea and fishermen. For this reason, the municipal market is undoubtedly a place to visit. Along the way, you will also pass through locations such as Fuzeta, known for the production of Salt and Santa Luzia. After arriving in Tavira and checking into the hotel, take the opportunity to visit the city. The area next to the Gilão River is one of the most beautiful, where you can find the Roman bridge and the public garden. Very close by you can also visit the old castle area.

Day 6 - Tavira - António Monte Gordo - (47 kms / 29 mi)
This last day will be special, for its beauty. Leaving Tavira, you will pass some saltpans before reaching the small town of Cabanas, which in summer is very popular for its paradisiacal beaches. A few kilometers further, there is Cacelha Velha, located on a hill right next to the Ria Formosa, where the view from the church and the fort over the sea is very special. After passing through the towns of Manta Rota and Altura you will continue inland through the lands of Castro Marim, where you can see a Marshland and the military fort, before reaching Vila Real de Santo António and the banks of the Guadiana River, a natural border between Portugal and Spain. After riding the city streets, you will face the sea and the beach, towards Monte Gordo, which will be the final destination of your trip.

Day 7 – Departure
We have reached the end of the trip.
Transfers to the airport will be arranged but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with a few recommendations.
