Description

This 7 day traverse of the Algarve region in the south of Portugal is a magnifique gravel cycling holiday. Spectacular views, perfect gravel, smiling people all around, excellent food and great hospitality make this a bucket-list trip that you should not miss!

Program

Day 1 - Arrival in the Algarve and in the city of Tavira. Upon the arrival at Faro Airport, you will be greeted by a Bikesul representative who, after a brief introduction, will transfer you to your hotel in Tavira, a histric city of the Algarve with plenty of remains from past civilizations. Day 2 - The Sotavento Algarve (63 km, 650 m elevation)
The first day of activity is distinguished by a circular route in the eastern Algarve, exploring the interior through the Serra de Tavira at the beginning, then entering the forest of Santa Rita and ending by the coast, along the Ria Formosa. Undoubtedly the best way to start your gravel adventure in the Algarve.

 Day 3 - The Ria Formosa, the Barrocal and the Serra do Caldeirão. Tavira > Alte (85 km, 1200 m elevation)
On this day you will say goodbye to Tavira and start cycling along the Ria Formosa and coastal area towards west until you get to Fuzeta.
From this piscatory small village you will then ride north through the barrocal area. You will notice the difference in the terrain appart from the landscape.
Slowly climbing you will pass by the charming Vila of São Brás de Alportel, then you enter in Loule council through the Serra do Caldeirão. Up the traditional village of Alte you will pass through another small traditional villages as Querença, Salir and Benafim.

  Day 4 - The historic city of Silves. Alte > Monchique  (80 km, 1500 m elevation)
This day starts with a nice, easy and quite ride to São Bartolomeu de Messines. Then on the way to the historic city of Silves you will ride a wondeful gravel road beside the Funcho and then the Arade lakes. In Silves we invite you to visit the medieval castle and explore this small city,  the first capital of the Algarve. The is time to ride through the Serra de Silves with it's steep up and downs. The last part of this day will be challenging as you climb to Monchique.

 Day 5 - The Monchique mountain range and the Atlantic southwest coast. Monchique > Vake da Telha (Aljezur) (77 km, 1200 m elevation)
This stage is characterized by two distinct phases, the first through the Monchique mountain range, ylou will start by climbing Fóia, the highest peak of the Algarve at 900mt heigh. Then a long descent will take you to the Atlantic southwest coast, famous for it's wild beaches. End the stage in the famous surf spot of Vale da Telha.

 Day 6 - The Vicentina coast and Cape St Vincent (73 km, 900 m elevation)
In the last cycling day of this trip you will ride along the Vicentina coast, maybe the best gravel spot in Europe! Wild with perfect gravel surface overlooking the Atlantic coast. Along the way wild beaches, surf spots and great cliffs will delight you! Before you get to Sagres, you will visit the southern point of Europe.  Cabo de São Vicente, the most southwesterly point in Europe, will undoubtedly be a memorable moment! There you can visit the lighthouse and the fort that are on top of a cliff.

 Day 7 - The Departure
After having breakfast, the transfer service will be provided but if you are planning to stay a few more days, let us know if we can help you with some suggestions.
