The road Cycling World Championships start this Sunday, with the men's elite time trial, and end on September 26th.
João Almeida will lead the Portuguese team in the men's competition in Flanders. Portugal will be represented by 17 cyclists.
In the elite men's team will be João Almeida (Deceuninck-QuickStep), Nelson Oliveira (Movistar), Rafael Reis (Efapel), Ruben Guerreiro (Education First-Nippo) and Rui Oliveira (UAE Emirates). André Carvalho (Cofidis) will be in the deep test on the last day of the race. Nelson Oliveira and Rafael Reis chosen for the individual time trial.
In the elite women's race will be Maria Martins (Drops), national long-distance champion, and Daniela Campos (Bizkaia Durango).
Fábio Costa (Efapel), Miguel Salgueiro (LA Alumínios) and Pedro Miguel Lopes (Kelly-Simoldes-UDO) will be in the men's under-23 competition and António Morgado and Gonçalo Tavares (Bairrada) will be in the ‘time trial.
Diogo Pinto (Joaquim Agostinho Academy/CYR/UDO) and Lucas Lopes (Póvoa de Varzim/CDC Navais) will be representing in the juniors. Beatriz Roxo (Academia de Cycling de Paredes) and Sofia Gomes (Vesam/Blok/Vilanovense) will be in the women's juniors for the long distance event.
The race has 268.3 kilometers between Antwerp and Leuven with short climbs and several sloping sections.
