The Portuguese mountain biking and cycling coach congratulated Portugal's "historic" qualification for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games, with a quota for an athlete in the women's Olympic cross country race. "It is a very important moment for national cycling, in particular for mountain biking and for women. We have a historic qualification of a woman on mountain biking, also on the track", Pedro Vigário said.
The national cycling will have two male representatives on the road, in addition to an athlete on the track, a place guaranteed by Maria Martins, and one in the Olympic cross country (XCO), achieved thanks to the result of Raquel Queirós in the 2019 World Under-23 Championship, after a qualification process with several factors.
The women's cycling took only 23rd place of Ana Barros on the road, in 1996, as a historical landmark.
This marks an important moment for Portuguese cycling and for women.
