Portuguese cyclist Iuri Leitão won the silver medal in the elimination of the track World Cup, the only podium in Portugal in the competition, which took place in Roubaix, France.
After fourth place in omnium, on Saturday, Iuri Leitão was second fastest. First place was Italian Élia Viviani and third place was Russian Sergei Rostovtsev.
The 23-year-old Viana do Castelo cyclist was champion of Europe in 2020, in scratch, a competition in which he took silver in elimination and bronze in omnium.
This is Portugal's third podium in track cycling World Championships, after Ivo Oliveira's silver, in individual pursuit, in 2018, and Maria Martins's bronze, in scratch, in 2020.
With this podium, Portugal finishes the World Cup in the group of 10th classified.
