Italian cyclist Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo), 10th place in the 2021 Tour of Italy, left the race this Thursday, before starting for the 18th stage, because of the injuries sustained during a fall that occurred yesterday, Wednesday.
Ciccone "suffered a severe injury to his lower back and his left hand" due to the fall - which also involved fellow countryman Vincenzo Nibali and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier, colleagues at Trek-Segafredo -, at a time when he was traveling at great speed.
Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep), who was also involved in the crash, gave up on Wednesday after suffering multiple lacerations.
