British cyclist Geraint Thomas (INEOS) won the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday, after having won second place in the eighth and final stage, a time trial that was won by Belgian Remco Evenepoel (QuickStep-Alpha Vynil).
The winner of the last Volta ao Algarve spent 28.26 minutes to complete the 25.6 kilometers of the individual exercise, starting and finishing in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, three seconds less than Thomas and 10 less than the Swiss Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ).
Thomas stole the lead from Colombian Sergio Higuita (BORA-hansgrohe), who was only 11th in the run, 1.17 from Evenepoel.
Thomas finished with a lead of 1.12 minutes over Higuita and 1.16 over the Danish Jakob Fuglsang (Israel-Premier Tech).
The portuguese Nelson Oliveira (Movistar) was in 36th place at 2.30 minutes, finishing the race in 25th position, at 29.24 minutes.
