Today, Thursday, a second stage of the “Algarvia” brings the first duel between the main favorites to the final triumph. A mountainous stage, between Sagres and Fóia, must, in theory, give an indication of who will win the Tour.
At the highest point in the Algarve, situated 900 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Monchique mountains, a journey of 182.8 kilometers will culminate.
The stage is scheduled to start at 12:55 pm and includes four mountain counts, the last of which coincides with the goal.
After a quiet first stage, passing the Aljezur steering wheel (kilometer 41.6), the peloton sees the road slope, with the third category of Marmelete being 7.3 kilometers ahead.
There are long kilometers without challenges, punctuated by the steering goal of São Bartolomeu de Messines (113.2), until a new test, in the third category of Alferce, at 156.4.
After a dangerous descent, the squad chosen to climb to the top of Pomba (a second category with 3.6 kilometers and a pending average of 8.2%, located at kilometer 169.1), before crossing the third 'sprint' intermediate day, in Monchique, at 174.9.
Cyclists will then begin to climb up to Fóia (7.5 kilometers with 7.3% average slope), in what will be the first opportunity for candidates for the yellow jersey to show up, with the arrival being scheduled for 5: 29 pm.
The 47th Volta ao Algarve arrived yesterday, Wednesday, in Lagos, and ends on Sunday, at the top of Malhão.
