With centuries of history, the Vicentina Route seeks to recover what would have been the path used by pilgrims, travelers and inhabitants in their travels through out the region. The roads, fountains, churches, hills and villages are what tell us the history of the place. This network of routes is ideal for those looking for nature, adventure, adrenaline and the contact with the rural world that is so typical of the Alentejo Coast! In addition, this route includes several sections along the Atlantic coast, famous for its huge and pointed cliffs, wild coves and off the beaten track beaches with passionate views over the sea. In addition to rural trails and paths, there are peaceful villages and hamlets with rustic houses, typical of the Southwest region of Portugal.
Come and discover the charm and treasures of "Costa Vicentina"!

Day 1: Arrival in Santiago do Cacém
Our trip begins in Santiago do Cacém , a small village dominated by a castle on the top of a hill.
Take the time to stroll around the village and the castle, after you check-in at the hotel.
Accommodation in Santiago do Cacém.

Day 2: From the “montado” to the coast (60 km/38 mi, 500 m/1640 ft elevation gain)
Leaving Santiago behind, ride through amazing trails until you see the blue sea in front of you!
The first cycling day passes through fields of cork tree and grazing areas. The "montado" landscape is also very caractheristic, beeing home for many wild boars, black pigs, and other species.
On this day, we will also have the opportunity to pass through the village of Porto Covo, and through the beach of "Ilha do Pessegueiro", which has a small island with a fort on the top, a few meters off coast.
Accommodation in Vila Nova de Milfontes.

Day 3: Odemira (50 km/33 mi, 1000 m/3280 ft elevation gain)
Today you will be departing from the coast and riding the inland area, along the Mira river, through beautiful valleys, in direction to Odemira. The course gets a little bit harder as you get to São Luis village. Take the time to enjoy nature as this route passes through small farms, oak groves and pastures, in a rural setting that is a reminder of other times.
Accommodation in Odemira.

Day 4: Zambujeira do Mar and Odeceixe (55 km/35 mi, 800 m/2624 ft elevation gain)
Start this day cycling along the bank of the Mira river.
The route mostly follows rural paths, sometimes passing by agricultural fields near the coast. After visiting Zambujeira do Mar, we will ride again along the coast until we get to Azenha do Mar, a small fishing village with a fishing port that is worth visiting. Right after, comes the typical village of Odeicexe with its amazing sandy beach, where the Seixe river flows into the beach and sea.
Today's ride ends at Aljezur, a historic village in the Algarve that is famous for growing sweet potatoes.
Accomodation in Aljezur.

Day 5: The Vicentina coast and Cape St. Vincent (55 km/35 mi, 800 m/2624 ft elevation gain)
In the last cycling day, we will ride mostly in the coastline. Leaving Aljezur behind we'll  pass by the medieval castle and then ride south to Carrapateira. This is a marvelous place with an amazing natural beauty, so it's better to stop for a while to contemplate the views over the beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
When arriving at Cape Saint Vincent, the most southwestern point in Europe, we will be able to visit the lighthouse and the small fort located over a cliff.
Accomodation in Sagres.

We recommend WorldNomads, whose policies are specially designed for bike holidays. You can arrange your insurance cover directly with them.

Please note: Our mountain bike tour is a "living thing", being influenced by multiple factors such as weather conditions, group riding abilities and trail damage, to name a few. Your local guides are experts in guiding mountain bikers  and will be continually assessing these factors making tweaks to the itinerary where necessary to ensure that every member of the group has the best experience possible.

Your safety and pleasure on this event are of paramount importance to us. We take every reasonable precaution to ensure the routes we choose are safe, enjoyable, challenging but still within each rider’s ability.
